This Is How We Love

A film by Harry Itie

For more than forty years, Black queer people have cared for one another through HIV/AIDS, creating networks of love, protection, and survival in the absence of institutional support. This Is How We Love asks what that care looks like today, and what it means to carry it forward.

Built through intimate, long-form conversations with Black queer people across the United States and the diaspora, the film explores how we continue to show up for one another, including in places where same-sex love is still criminalized.

This film is a love letter to the people who came before us, to the ways we continue to care for one another, and to the possibility of a future where that care is not simply necessary for survival, but a source of joy, connection, and power.
